7 Tips for your Consciousness Journey

Certified Yoga & Mindset Coach, Kloii Hummingbird

As the world is still reeling from the effects of the 2020 pandemic and shut down we, as a society, have individual and collective healing to do and that truth is prevalent pre and post pandemic. The surgeon general has stated that:

“Our epidemic of loneliness and isolation has been an underappreciated public health crisis that has harmed individual and societal health. Our relationships are a source of healing and well-being hiding in plain sight – one that can help us live healthier, more fulfilled, and more productive lives,” said U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. “Given the significant health consequences of loneliness and isolation, we must prioritize building social connection the same way we have prioritized other critical public health issues such as tobacco, obesity, and substance use disorders. Together, we can build a country that’s healthier, more resilient, less lonely, and more connected.”

For myself, and millions of others, 2020-2022 were some of the most challenging years of my existence. I’ve come to realize that during those years I was not taking care of myself, my relationship with myself floundered and I was not utilizing all the wellness tools at my disposal. I became egotistical about my consciousness journey thinking because I know the tools to wellness I wouldn’t be affected even though I was not taking the time to actually practice those tools and actively live a conscious lifestyle. As a yoga coach, I feel strengthened through my adversity and now possess an added layer of depth to truly understand the human condition on another level through my own lived experience. I reacquainted myself with my own consciousness journey, but not before first slipping into my own depression. Like the surgeon general referred to, I isolated my mind, body and spirit from my consciousness practice and wasn’t connecting with myself, others or the world around me. The pandemic may have isolated me physically, but it was my own lack of a continued consciousness practice that exacerbated my symptoms of depression. Depression is a common mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It can cause a wide range of symptoms, including sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. While depression is often talked about, there are still many things that people don’t know about it until you experience it first hand and that I rarely hear people talk about regarding depression.

We can become trapped in the matrix thinking our worth is tied up in how others perceive us, our material possessions or how much money we have – I’m here to tell you that none of this is real. Lovely humans are killing themselves under the weight of these societal illusions and we must not get caught up in this matrix but instead come back to truth. The truth I believe that only love is real (you may call it spirit, god, consciousness, or the universal life force that runs though all things - all these words are interchangeable here), the connection of all humanity and all things is real, but societal structures such as

capitalism and the structure of society at large is an illusion of our minds. All the rules we believe to be true were literally something made up in someone’s mind. Money for example only has the power that we as people give to it. On its own it’s just green pieces of paper (depending on your country) it can’t actually keep us warm on its own, or feed us or clothe us. The very existence of money is an illusion of the matrix that we all basically are forced to and choose to participate in. The point is, we have the power to create our internal and external reality through critical thinking and developing a consciousness lifestyle practice.

As a certified yoga and mindset coach with a decade of teaching experience, I have studied courses on philosophy, ethics, Buddhism, and communication and thorough my studies have compiled 7 tips to assist you in beginning, or if you are like me, re-finding your center through this crazy matrix we live in. These tips are universal reminders, for everyone, who seeks to develop your own consciousness for yourself and the holistic health of society at large.

  1. The pursuit of consciousness is an ongoing process, never assume you know everything - for example, I like to say it’s a yoga practice not a yoga perfect, there are layers to consciousness and getting to know ourselves and the many depths of existence is like peeling layers of an infinite onion. We never just arrive at a place of enlightenment, rather or not our ego wants to admit it or not - love, self discovery and breaking through the matrix to discover truth takes a lifetime of consistency through the false realities we experience everyday.

  2. Cognitive dissonance is a real thing, and you can’t help, save or change the mind of anyone who doesn’t care to be enlightened. Being of service is a healing practice for the self however take Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher, he was murdered by those still trapped in the matrix who viewed critical thinking and questioning the status quo of society to be a threat. Not everyone is ready for a path of consciousness because that takes developing and changing in some way and change is not easy.

  3. There are many paths to enlightenment. To contemplate what lies beneath the self, I suggest a mixture of psychological exploration, spiritual development and a physical movement practice and study of all things related to discrimination to evolve our actions and exist balanced in an unbalanced society as individuals and as a collective society.

  4. Pausing and taking a deep breath is always a good idea.

  5. Know that embarking on a consciousness journey takes a great deal of mental, spiritual, and emotional stamina, it’s not easy and takes time - be patient with yourself and others.

  6. Question everything, even your own assumptions, because our reality is limited by our lived experiences. For example, Europeans took over the world and shaped it in there image - anything furthest away from white, male and christian was seen as a dirty threat to what they deemed society should be. Since the world as we know it is shaped for white christian men, a white man will most likely perceive the world in an entirely different way than a black woman and others. Perception is limited by our illusion of the matrix, and our individual illusions are shaped by our lived experiences.

  7. You become what you do, think, eat, and engage with. Be mindful of your everyday activity.
